Evolution of Keratoplasty
Abstract
Keratoplasty or corneal transplant is a surgical procedure whereby scarred or opaque cornea is replaced with healthy donor cornea. The transplanted cornea could be full thickness or partial thickness. Several corneal disorders like keratoconus, corneal dystrophies, and corneal scarring can be treated with this procedure. Over the years with improvements in technology and surgical methods, the technique of keratoplasty has changed significantly.
